Summer Essentials For The Entire Family

I’m so excited Summer is finally about here. The weather is getting nicer, things are turning green and bright flowers are popping out around us. The transition from Spring to Summer is one of my favorite times of year because it is like someone hits a reset button and we get a fresh start, a new beginning.

CHANGING OF THE SEASONS

The change of seasons, especially from Winter/Spring to Summer, brings the need to do a lot around your house, a lot with your wardrobe and essentials to bring with you daily. See below for some of my favorite Summer Essentials for the Entire family.

SUMMER ESSENTIALS

The first summer essential is Sunblock. As a kid, you don’t tend to worry about sunblock or the effects of sun damage in general, but as parents, we know how important it is. Each morning, I use Olay Face moisturizer to protect against any dark spots and sun damage. There are 3 main sunblocks I like to use for our family though; one for the baby, one for the littles and one for the adults. For the baby, I like to use Neutrogena Baby Sunscreen. There are multiple types but all are great and what my doctor recommended to me. The second choice by my doctor recommended was the Aveeno Baby Sunscreen. For my son who is 5, I can still use the Aveeno or Neutrogena because they are great products but because he is more active, I really like the thinksport brand because it holds up to more active activities and is still tear free. Finally, for my husband and I, we found a great deal on the Coppertone Sport 70. Coppertone is obviously a great brand and this one is no different. It goes on a little think but that lets me know that we are getting good coverage and protection. Finally, I do carry around a Babyganics Face Sunscreen Stick because I love their products as well and it is very gentle on everyone’s face.

BUG SPRAY

Even though I love summer, I do hate bugs and bug bites. I for sure want to make sure my children are safe. You can either make a more natural spray at home for your children (recipe here) or purchase one like I usually do because of time. I really like two products for my children; California Baby Bug Repellent and Bugables Mosquito Repellent Bands. For us adults, I either go with the good old fashion OFF Bug Spray, which also comes in a wipe formula. This was a total game changer for us last year. Nice to just keep in your purse or bag.

COMFORTABLE CLOTHING

There is nothing worse than being too hot during the summer. Many times your clothing plays a big part in that. Be sure to get clothing that breaths and is moisture wicking. Some of our families favorites:

My favorite toddler line for my kids has always been the Gap Playtime Favorites line. The clothes are super affordable, fashionable and a super breathable cotton material, all perfect for summer. The shirt shown to the left comes in many colors and style variations, for sure a summer must for your little lady.

For my son, who is now almost 5, crazy how that happened so fast, they have a Fit & Active line that is perfect for him.  I mean let’s be honest, boys at this age only want to wear comfy sporty clothes anyway. They also have the same Fit & Active Line for girls.
For myself, I usually can find anything I want or need to wear at Target. They always have the latest trends, summer casuals, dresses, sandals and more. If they don’t have it, I probably don’t need it. In addition to activewear, I love wearing dresses during the summer, just easy to put on and go. One I absolutely love is featured in this picture.

My husband (the one on the left in this picture), as you can see, is a t-shirt and shorts kind of guy. He will also go for a good golf shirt. Target again has a great selection of shorts, graphic tees, and golf shirts. They have a pretty large selection of swim for men as well.

BEACH BAG OR TOTE

I’ll be honest, I actually keep a bag in my car during the summer months that has bug spray, sunscreen, a few toys, extra towels, bathing suits, and clothes. This way I am always prepared for anything the day may bring. It is always nice if we decide last minute to jump in the car and go somewhere. For this tote, I like to use my Thirty One Large Utility Tote, if you do not have a rep near you (just click the one I’ve linked), or I’ve also linked this tote from Target that is very similar.

XL Towel and Portable Blanket

You may not always have room for chairs in your car, but you can surely keep a stash of towels or portable blankets. These are great for spur of the moment picnics, beach days or sporting events. I recommend the XL Towels because they serve as both a towel and a blanket. Speaking of blankets, this portable blanket is a must all year around.

ENJOY YOUR SUMMER FRIENDS

I hope you find this list of summer essentials as helpful for you and your family as it is for ours. Make lots of memories this summer, enjoy!
