A Family Valentine's Day
Valentine’s Day
I love Valentine’s Day for what it reminds people of, not for all the Hallmark craziness! It is a holiday that reminds us all to love often, love more and to be with those we truly care about. This year we are having A Family Valentine’s Day, with the exception of my husband and I being able to go out to dinner. I am excited to spend the day with my kiddos and then my husband at night, a perfect balance. This post is a little bit of this and a little bit of that, a little shorter than normal and kinda all over the place. It is real life, it is real love, not the kind that is dramatized in the movies.

Matching Family Outfits
Like all holidays, I love getting my kiddos new outfits to wear but do not want to spend a fortune to do so. I also like to find outfits that aren’t holiday specific and can be worn more than once. I know some may say I am too practical and that is ok because that is me!
So I love it when I can find matching outfits for my kiddos like these, it is harder with boys and girls, but it is possible. This year, I found the cutest shirts at Target for them, for Valentin’s Day. They are cute, simple and of course practical. They are great to wear for the first time on the actual holiday, but then are versatile enough to be worn again.
These shirts can be found in newborn sizes all the way up to 24 months for the baby. They are available in 2T – 5T for toddlers. For children, it’s your typical sizes in the little girls/boys sections that are available. Finally, they are also available in a full lineup of men’s and women’s sizes. Perfect for a family of many ages like ours. We have a 15-month-old, 4-year-old, 18-year-old and a 20-year-old. (If you shop today or the day after Valentine’s Day, the most likely will be on sale and you can get them discounted for next year, bonus!)
I did not get these for myself or my husband, but that is just because I am not much of a t-shirt kind of person and I usually like to get dressed up a bit on holidays. I purchased this shirt for myself during the day though. I will wear something a little different for the evening. Since we are on vacation with our family, my in-laws offered to babysit our kids so my husband and I can go out for a nice dinner. So excited.
LOVE
Though our society makes Valentine’s very commercialized, to me the purpose of Valentine’s Day is to simply remind us all to love. It should remind us all to be kinder to one another and remember those close to us, both near and far. I love that people want to buy one another nice gifts but for me, that isn’t what it should be about. I’m way too practical and don’t want my husband spending 4x the amount on flowers just because of a holiday. I’d rather get them throughout the year for no particular reason, which he is really good about doing by the way.
My Family
For Valentines Day, I love getting my kiddos a little something to show them how much I love them. I do not go overboard. This year I got my 15-month old a little pink valentine pony. It is so cute! My 4-year old has been flipping out lately over the FlipaZoo stuffed animals so I found the perfect one for him for Valentines Day. I found one that is spiderman on one side and an iron man on the other, he is going to love it. I also found him a little chocolate superhero Valentine. Neither was very expensive, under $15 for both kiddos actually, but showing them I care about them is what matters to me.
Happy Valentine’s Day
What are your plans for Valentine’s Day? Know, no matter what, that it’s ok to not be in a relationship and as my step-daughter so boldly stated, experiencing romantic love. Valentine’s Day is a day to Celebrate all those people in your life you care about. Be thoughtful as you pass people by on the street, open a door for a stranger, say hello, give a smile and just be kind because you don’t know what someone else may be going through. LOVE LOVE LOVE and LOVE! Happy love day to you all! <3
