My Favorite Things: Fall Edition

FALL IS MY FAVORITE TIME OF YEAR

Let me just start by saying that Fall is my absolute favorite time of year. Don’t get me wrong, I love summer, going to the beach, being tan, etc. But I LOVE Fall! There is something about being able to wear an oversized sweater, boots and be sipping on a warm tea, coffee, and the occasional pumpkin spice latte.  Let’s not forget about going to our local farms to get pumpkins, apples, feed the animals, eat fresh pumpkin donuts and go through the corn maze, all with coffee in hand. So much fun to be had.

MY FAVORITE THINGS

Now that you know how much I love Fall, let me tell you about my favorite go-to products and things about fall that makes it so special to me. These things range from things for myself, events, food, my family or products specifically for fitness.

Fall Festivals
My all-time favorite thing about fall is the many festivals we get to attend. Unlike summer, the weather is normally much more enjoyable, summer can be too hot and sticky for my liking. Plus the aroma at these festivals is just amazing. The smell of chili, coffee, pumpkin pie or pumpkin everything really fills the air. Locally we have many wine & beer festivals as well as chili cook-offs and various family-friendly events. Many take place at farms or local hotspots. Traverse City has a lot to offer!

Food
I’ve already mentioned I love pumpkin spice lattes and pumpkin donuts, two things I never indulge in any other time of the year by the way. In addition to those two staples, I love acorn squash or really any type of squash. I typically just roast squash and other in-season vegetables in the oven with a little garlic and olive oil on them. Delish! Try this great Recipe from Betty Crocker.
Something about fall brings out the inner chef in me (who’s kidding, I’ll never be a chef) to try new recipes. With the Holiday season starting during the fall, it is a perfect time to brush up on my cooking skills anyway. Do you have any favorite recipes? I’d love to hear from you. Comment below this post, post on my social media pages or shoot me an email.

Leggings, Jeans & Oversized Sweaters
I’m not going to lie, I do get a little bummed when I have to put away my sandals, but I perk back up when I see my comfy sweaters, favorite jeans and those oh so comfy leggings that have been pushed to the back of my closet all summer. Who else is with me? Some of my favorite styles below:

Holiday Fun
With Fall comes Halloween, Thanksgiving and fun family gatherings. I like to decorate for holidays but I do not go overboard. I like to get simple things that can be reused from year-to-year and then each year I add a little more so I don’t break the bank. I will typically shop at Target, Hobby Lobby, T.J.maxx, Pier One or even our local dollar stores. For some simply Fall tips, see my post from last year: “Simple Fall Decorations You Can Actually Afford.” What are your favorite ways to decorate your home for the holidays?

Fall Fitness
Fall is a great time to jump back into a consistent fitness routine. The kids are back in school and you can actually develop more of a routine for yourself. Don’t get me wrong, fitness is always a big part of my life but for me, Fall just seems like a great time to re-focus and be more intentional. I think knowing all the yummy foods I want to enjoy is more motivation for me to workout harder and more often…its all about finding balance.
