Simple Fall Decorations You Can Actually Afford

Fall is my favorite time of year. The smell of pumpkin, apples, cinnamon, and nutmeg in the air makes your house smell amazing and so homey. Not to mention all of the Fall Harvest festivals for your entire family to enjoy together.

FALL DECORATIONS

So many people don’t decorate their homes for the holidays because of 3 main reasons; too expensive, not enough time and not sure where to start. Let me tell you if I can do it, so can you! I will tell you that I don’t go overboard and I just stick to simple decorations, if you are an elaborate and over the top person (that’s totally ok!) this isn’t for you. My goal is to do something I can do in under an hour and for less than $40 (this cost includes buying the kids pumpkins) each year. Understand the first year you start, you may spend a little more.
Step 1: Go to Pinterest for inspiration or since you already here, just look at my simple decorations included right in this post. The wreath is one I made almost 4 years ago…
Step 2: Go to your local dollar store. Yep, you heard me correctly, skip the expensive crafting stores and go to the dollar store (unless you get end-of-season deals). Look for simple items like bags of leaves, dried hydrangea, pine cones, etc.

Step 3: Go to your local grocery store. I like to incorporate a few fresh items with the items I got from the dollar store and that I use each year. I get small pumpkins, maybe some gourds and some popcorn kernels.

Step 4: Go to the Farm! I love Fall…did I say that already? Seriously though, incorporate your entire family and go to a local farm or orchard. I get most of my pumpkins at the grocery store because they are way cheaper, but I always let the kids pick out a pumpkin at the local orchard and we make an afternoon of it as a family. Oh, and did I mention I get pumpkin donuts and coffee there too…yum!?

Step 5: Have Fun! Don’t worry about making it perfect, just enjoy yourself. I like to get some of those window stickers as well so my kids can be doing that while I am doing the real decorating.
This year, because I have saved my decorations from previous years, I only spent $8 on some window stickers and pie pumpkins. We then spent approx $17 at the orchard. This included a couple more pumpkins for kids and of course that included my donuts and coffee. It also only took me 30 minutes to do and that was with my 11-month-old helping.
